Sallie's history - Running along with motorsports

Sallie's is named after its first owner, Sallie Zimmerhackel from Denver, Colorado. In 1955 she traveled to Denmark. The year after that she opened up an American Snack Bar with its own motel at location in Albertslund.

Sallie's Restaurant & Snack Bar by Wittrup Motel has ever since drawn attention from people all over Copenhagen and the rest of Zealand.

The charming and complete American style was new and exciting, and the menu card offered something entirely different from the brown sauce and potatoes that you were used to then. Sallie even was the very first to introduce the Danes to the cheeseburger.

Even though the new "little brother" shares its first name with the older sister in Albertslund, Sallie's Race Lounge is not just a copy. The line of design combines the pure look of the 50's with history of go-karting which originates from the very same decade - the 1950's.

Additionally, Sallie's has always had a close relation to motorsports. In 1955 the Roskilde Ring opened nearby and since major international races took place there, drivers often stayed at Wittrup Motel and ate at Sallie's.

Explore the history by having a look around in the restaurant where menu cards, interior design and wall decorations makes their contribution in telling the story.

Authentic American food and drinks

Just like the décor, the food and drinks are inspired by the American 50's and Sallie's own recipes. Sink your teeth into Sallie's American Barbecue Ribs, the classic newly interpreted 50's burgers, steaks and much more. All dishes are homemade and although the classic and authentic is taken into account, the kitchen likes to add a refreshing twist to the dishes. Quality is of highest priority and most things are made from our own recipes, even the mayo.

Amongst our drinks you will find our most popular high-quality milkshakes, lemonades and ice cream sodas which was also on the menu in the 50's. These drinks are, like our food, made from the bottom with fresh ingredients.
